Detail In Nature solo exhibition at Brockhole on Windermere

28th November, 2017

I’m delighted to share that I am exhibiting at Brockhole, The Lake District Visitor Centre in Windermere, Cumbria. Running for three months from Thursday 30th November until Wednesday 28th February, I’ll be showing my work in the beautiful Gaddam Gallery of the Arts and Crafts building. For the exhibition I will be exploring the ecology of Brockhole including it’s lake and ancient woodland, creating new work including a giant papercut. I’ll also be showing the beautiful laser-etched wooden blocks I’ve collaborated on with The Light Engineering Company.

Workshops will also be held throughout the exhibition, and there will be the opportunity to talk to me about my work as plan to spend some days working in the gallery. This is a wonderful opportunity for me, and I look forward to it!

Stories In Paper featured in the North West Evening Mail

23rd September, 2016

I’m really pleased to share that an interview with me has been published in the North West Evening Mail. In it I talk about my love of papercutting, and how I discovered the art form.

“I first discovered papercutting when I was making stencils for printmaking, but I loved the stencils so much I didn’t want to use them for printing. Later, when I was working in puppet theatre I began to make shadow puppets, which led to building whole sets and shows using paper.’

‘I enjoy the challenge of cutting intricate designs into the paper to create a picture, and the delicacy of the final image. I also really like the way that a finished papercut can be framed, used for design on a poster, or even have light shone on it to make a big shadow in an art show.’

Kingfisher in Flag Irises, 2016

I also talk about my upcoming workshop in papercutting from 10am – 4pm on Sunday 9th October at The Coach House, Ford Park, Ulverston, Cumbria.

“At my workshop, people will have to opportunity to learn all they need to know about the art of papercutting.

“This will include the materials they need, which is informed by years of testing and experimenting on my part. I will share the techniques I have developed through short introductory activities, demonstrate how to design a papercut even if you aren’t confident at drawing, and help people to design their own.

“At the end of the day everyone will have a papercut to take home, and an information pack containing stencils and all the information they need to develop their papercutting at home.”

If you’d like to join the workshop you can find out more in the poster below, or contact me at Booking is essential so don’t miss out!
