Stories In Paper featured in the North West Evening Mail

I’m really pleased to share that an interview with me has been published in the North West Evening Mail. In it I talk about my love of papercutting, and how I discovered the art form.

“I first discovered papercutting when I was making stencils for printmaking, but I loved the stencils so much I didn’t want to use them for printing. Later, when I was working in puppet theatre I began to make shadow puppets, which led to building whole sets and shows using paper.’

‘I enjoy the challenge of cutting intricate designs into the paper to create a picture, and the delicacy of the final image. I also really like the way that a finished papercut can be framed, used for design on a poster, or even have light shone on it to make a big shadow in an art show.’

I also talk about my upcoming workshop in papercutting from 10am – 4pm on Sunday 9th October at The Coach House, Ford Park, Ulverston, Cumbria.

“At my workshop, people will have to opportunity to learn all they need to know about the art of papercutting.

“This will include the materials they need, which is informed by years of testing and experimenting on my part. I will share the techniques I have developed through short introductory activities, demonstrate how to design a papercut even if you aren’t confident at drawing, and help people to design their own.

“At the end of the day everyone will have a papercut to take home, and an information pack containing stencils and all the information they need to develop their papercutting at home.”

If you’d like to join the workshop you can find out more in the poster below, or contact me at Booking is essential so don’t miss out!
